BACKGROUND
Lawrence J. Szabo is a true native of Southern California. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and has spent his entire career working in Southern California. During his various employment positions, prior to becoming a lawyer, he acquired a wealth of knowledge about the inner workings of a business through on the job training.
Upon graduation from law school and passing the California Bar Exam in 1974, Mr. Szabo worked as an associate attorney specializing in the representation of businesses in connection with commercial litigation (debt collection). Between 1976 and 1978, Mr. Szabo's practice focused on general civil matters with an emphasis on business related matters. In 1978, Mr. Szabo formed the first Law Office of Lawrence J. Szabo which focused primarily on business and real estate matters. During this period, Mr. Szabo also gained extensive experience in the internal operations of a business, as well as management and employee issues as the owner of his own business and by serving as an officer and director of other businesses, including a publicly traded corporation. In 1988, Mr. Szabo joined forces with a former associate attorney and formed Szabo and Spencer, a law partnership that focused on business, real estate, creditors’ rights and personal property lease law. In 1990, his law partnership expanded with the addition of a third partner and became “Szabo, Spencer & Mulally,” a law firm that grew to employ as many as twelve attorneys.
Independent of practicing real estate law, Mr. Szabo has always been enamored with construction and the real estate business. During the ‘70s he started investing in real estate and learned about construction through hands on experience in remodeling and improving property. In 1989, he became licensed as a general contractor.
In 2001, Mr. Szabo left Szabo, Spencer & Mulally in order to become more involved in the business side of real estate, in addition to the legal aspects. He formed T.D. Properties, Inc., for which he served as general counsel as well as President of the company. Between 2001 and 2006, T.D. Properties, Inc. purchased investment properties and then improved them for resale or rental. During this period, Mr. Szabo ran the company and handled all of the business and real estate legal matters for the corporation. In 2004, Mr. Szabo became licensed as a real estate broker.
With over 30 years of background in the areas of business and real estate, in 2007, Mr. Szabo formed the current Law Office of Lawrence J. Szabo to provide specialized legal services in the areas of business and real estate law.
